Great read. I agree we need to think of new ways to further humanity. I don’t mean this to be offensive or the only thing I took away from your piece, but genuinely curious. How would a matriarchal solution be any different than a patriarchal one? Shouldn’t we look past any sort of system where one “side” has dominion over the other if we want to avoid the issues we’ve all been plagued with for so long?
thank you so much for reading! A matriarchal society is an egalitarian society that centers the vulnerable rather than exploiting them, as our current hierarchical, patriarchal systems so often do. Matriarchy doesn't mean the domination of mothers (like patriarchy means the domination of fathers), it means mothers at the beginning. The idea starts with the simple fact that we're all born from a mother, and extends into a different way of organizing society where care and the sustenance of life is valued over the individualistic climb to the top of a hierarchy that leaves everyone else to pay the price.
Thank you for writing this. Also many people don’t understand feminism. It is not dominance. It is inclusive.
It is:
Feminism is the belief that everyone, regardless of gender, should have equal rights and opportunities.
It really is that simple. For all the different types of feminist theories and practices – for all the different schools of political, economic, and social thought – the grounding principle of feminism is equality.
You are amazing
